May 29--SPRINGFIELD -- The section of Illinois 161 between Bartelso and Germantown would be designated the Firefighter Tim Jansen Memorial Highway under a resolution adopted by the Illinois House and Senate.

Jansen was a 15-year veteran of the Santa Fe Fire Protection District, based in Bartelso, who died in December 2012 while fighting a fire. He was run over by a fire truck.

State Rep. Charlie Meier, R-Okawville, said: "I am happy the Senate adopted this resolution that will honor a well-deserving man who gave his life while serving his community. Although Tim's family and friends will never forget the pain that accompanies such a tragic accident, the memorial highway honoring Tim Jansen will serve as a reminder of how much he is missed throughout the community he served for so many years."

Sen. Kyle McCarter, R-Lebanon, sponsored the resolution in the Senate. The resolution now goes to the governor.
