Nev. Assistant Chief Dies During Wildland Training

An assistant chief in Nevada died of a massive heart attack while engaged in wildland training.

Hungry Valley Volunteer Assistant Chief Donovan Garcia Jr. , 52, collapsed last Thursday during a drill. He was pronounced dead at Northern Nevada Medical Center in Sparks, The Reno Gazette Journal reported.

The Reno-Sparks Indian Colony Tribe released the information on Monday.

He had been promoted to assistant fire chief in February.

A viewing is set from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday at O'Brien-Rogers and Crosby Funeral Home, 600 W. Second St., in Reno.

Services are planned for 11 a.m. Thursday at the Hungry Valley Gymnasium, 9070 Eagle Canyon Drive.
