July 14--The U.S. Forest Service is offering a $5,000 reward for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for placing a jar in the forest that exploded and injured a firefighter last week.
The firefighter, who received minor injuries and was treated and released from an Albuquerque hospital, was hurt when he impacted the device on the afternoon of July 7, in the Jemez Ranger District of the Santa Fe National Forest.
Person or persons unknown had placed the jar at the base of a U.S. Forest Service sign, said a news release from the Forest Service. The incident occurred near the intersection of Forest Road 376 and State Road 126 between the community of La Cueva and Fenton Lake State Park.
