An Arkansas assistant chief collapsed and died at a brush fire Wednesday afternoon.
Although CPR was administered immediately, Dermott Fire Assistant Chief J.B. Hutton, Jr. was pronounced dead at a local hospital.
In recent years, his duties were mainly driving the truck to fires, operating the controls, and sharing his experience with the younger firefighters on the scene, according to the Monticello Live. .
Firefighters told reporters as he reached down to pick up a hose, then fell back, towards a fellow firefighter. CPR was started immediately.
A friend said, “He died doing what he loved most – fighting fires.”
