Pa. Firefighter Serious After Fall While Cleaning Apparatus

A volunteer firefighter was seriously injured after falling from an apparatus at the Lehigh Township Volunteer Fire Company #1 station Sunday morning.
The 55-year-old was about 12 feet off the ground performing general maintenance for a Labor Day parade on the apparatus with a "a walkway and hand rails," according to a statement from the fire company. It was initially reported that he fell from 20 to 30 feet.
He was transported to the trauma unit of St. Luke's Hospital in Bethlehem where he is listed in serious condition.
"The accident is under internal investigation, however at this time there were no signs of any mechanical failures," according to the statement.
"We ask that you keep this firefighter and our station in your thoughts and prayers, and wish a speedy recovery," Fire Chief Richard Hildebrand said.
