Milwaukee Firefighter Punched on EMS Call

Sept. 7, 2015
A crowd refused to back away from Milwaukee firefighters who were evaluating a patient at a memorial vigil.

A Milwaukee firefighter was punched punched in the face while tending to a victim who was suffering from a medical emergency.

The incident happened Saturday night while a crowd gathered at a memorial vigil to remember a victim of a fatal motorcycle crash. Police officers were already monitoring the crowd when firefighters were called.

Police officials told Fox6News.com that the crowd wouldn't back away while crews were evaluating the patient.

The 26-year-old man punched the firefighter with a closed fist, the television station reports.

The firefighter suffered a minor injury and the original patient was taken to the hospital.

The suspect was arrested for battery to a firefighter.

In July, a Milwaukee firefighter was struck in the head by a stray bullet while assisting a person with difficulty breathing.

"This incident will serve to heighten our awareness but will not stop us from providing needed emergency medical care to our citizens," Fire Chief Mark Rohlfing said after the July incident.
