A Lansing firefighter died Wednesday after being struck, apparently intentionally, by a pickup truck while participating in a 'fill the boot' campaign.

Dennis Rodeman, 35, a seven-year veteran of the Lansing Fire Department, died Wednesday evening, hours after he was hit by a pickup truck.

He was a Marine veteran who served in Fallujah, Iraq. His wife is expecting their first child.

Rodeman was struck around 3:40 p.m. Wednesday near the intersection of S. Cedar Street and Jolly Road.

The driver had apparently been involved in a previous road rage incident, and preliminary investigation showed he deliberately struck Rodeman, who was dressed in turnout gear.

The 22-year-old, whose name has not been released, fled the scene, but was apprehended a short time later.

The investigation is continuing.
