S.C. Firefighter Dies; Ambulance Crashes on Enroute to Hospital

Santee Circle Battalion Chief Maywood Gaskins, 56, died of an apparent heart attack.

An ambulance crashed Wednesday morning as it was headed to a hospital with a S.C. battalion chief who was in cardiac arrest.

Santee Circle Battalion Chief Maywood Gaskins, 56, was pronounced dead.

Gaskins who was stricken at home fell ill following a department drill Tuesday night. 

On the way to the hospital Wednesday morning, the ambulance and a logging truck collided.

The EMTs in the ambulance were transported to the hospital.
