Oct. 16, 2015
The public service is set for the Sprint Center at 2 p.m.

The public memorial service for Kansas City Firefighters Larry Leggio and John Mesh is set for 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 17 at the Sprint Center.

Officials with IAFF Local 42 are hosting the tribute, and have been busy planning the event. People are encouraged to arrive early as many streets will be blocked. Doors will open at 1 p.m.

Preliminary plans call for Truck 2 and Pumper 10 to be on display on the arena floor. They were the rigs that the two rode to their final alarm.

Leggio, 43, and Mesh, 39, were killed in a building collapse Monday night.

Honor Guards should show up at least two hours before the services. There will be a static display of apparatus.

The IAFF also has arranged for special rates at local hotels for firefighters coming in for the service.

More information as well as contact information for the various participants including pipers and drummers can be viewed at IAFF42.
