Okla. Firefighter Makes Heroic Thanksgiving Day Rescue

Nov. 28, 2015
An off-duty Edmond Firefighter was driving in Oklahoma City when he saw smoke coming from a home and helped save seven people.

A firefighter from Edmond, who was off-duty at the time, saw smoke coming from a home in Oklahoma City metro, pulled up to the scene and got seven people out of the building before anyone was injured.

According to local television station KOCO, Chris Channel, who works at Edmond Fire Station 1, didn't want any praise or attention for the act he had performed at about 11 a.m. Thanksgiving Day. Edmond Battalion Chief Barry Garret said Channel was "just doing his job" and was humble about his action. He was in the right place at the right time.

The fire is believed to have started in the attic, but it remains under investigation.
