The Endeavor-Moundville firefighter was struck by a driver who did not see emergency crews on the interstate.

A 46-year-old firefighter died after he was struck at a motor vehicle accident scene Friday night near Endeavor.

Endeavor-Moundville Fire Department firefighters responded to Interstate 39 for a crash that was a result of a medical emergency, officials told local television station WMTV.

The Marquette County Sheriff's Department said the 54-year-old driver did not see the emergency vehicle, and when he swerved to avoid it, he struck the firefighter who was next to a fire truck.

The firefighter was rushed by ambulance to a hospital in Portage.

He was then flown to the University of Wisconsin Trauma Center in Madison, where he succumbed to his injuries.
