Mich. Firefighter Dies During Training

Just two days into the new year, a Michigan firefighter died during a training exercise.

Spring Arbor Township Firefighter Charles C. Adams Jr., 47, was stricken during a search and rescue exercise on Jan. 2.

Fellow colleagues assisted Adams as he quickly lost consciousness. He was rushed to a nearby hospital where he died.

Adams had just retired from the sheriff's office. The cause of death is pending. 

Last year, 85 firefighters died while on duty.
