The firefighter ran out of air and got disoriented, Detroit Fire Chief John Kind said.

Detroit fire officials said a firefighter is in stable condition after battling a warehouse fire Saturday night.

Firefighters were called to the fire on Michigan Avenue around 7:30 p.m.

The firefighter was stretching a hoseline into the building when he ran out of air and became disoriented, Detroit Fire Chief John King told television station WXYZ. He was taken to Detroit Receiving Hospital, where King said the member is in stable, but serious condition.

Bystanders told the television station that there were a couple of explosions about a half-hour into the fire.

Neighbors said the building was used as storage for a dollar store.
