A Vermont firefighter who suffered a heart attack at a brush fire last week died Thursday.
Steven Lapierre, 58, was a firefighter with the Georgia Fire Dept. for more than 40 years.
On April 27, he was stricken while helping colleagues battle a brush fire.
He is the first firefighter to die in the line of duty in the department.
“Steven Lapierre embodied the spirit of local public service. As we mourn Steven’s passing we pay tribute and appreciation to the countless hours he spent making our community a better and safer place to live," Chief Keith Baker said in a statement.
