A fire in a coal silo at an Edmonton, Alberta, cement plant sent four firefighters to the hospital for possible carbon monoxide inhalation.

According to the local newspaper, The Edmonton Journal, the firefighters were taken to the hospital for precautionary measures after they battled a blaze at the Lehigh Hanson plant in north Edmonton on Tuesday morning.

The paper reported crews were working on the roof when the first firefighter was striken. It's believed the firefighters inhaled carbon monoxide or some potential gas and were overcome.

The fire according to the paper, which is very uncommon, was just smouldering without any real flames, but lots of smoke.

Damage to the facility appeared to be minimal, although it took firefighters hours to completely douse the fire.
