Harrison Township Lt. Andrew 'Moose' Russell, 48, suffered an injury on duty earlier this year.

A Michigan firefighter recovering from surgery died Saturday of apparent complications.

Harrison Township Lt. Andrew 'Moose' Russell had surgery last Monday for a shoulder injury suffered on the job.

He went home on Wednesday, and told his wife to call 911 Saturday when he started feeling ill.

Russell, known for always having a smile on his face, couldn't be revived.

While on a medical call earlier this year, he slipped on ice and his shoulder was so badly injured, it needed to be replaced.
