The two Meridian firefighters who were hospitalized after Friday's deadly fire apparatus crash are improving.

Capt. Jeff Stuart and Firefighter David Carney sustained serious injuries when their pumper rolled over Friday morning. Eric Gustafson, 40, who was driving the rig, died in the crash.

“Both firefighters have been put in regular rooms, and they continue to show improvement daily,” Deputy Chief Ricky Leister told the Meridian Star.

Today at 11 a.m., the community will gather for a memorial service for Gustafson at St. Patrick Catholic Church.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held Wednesday at St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church in Metairie, LA.

Gustafson leaves behind his parents, Harry and Jan Gustafson; a daughter, Jessica Lynn Gustafson; a brother, Todd Gustafson and a sister, Lori G. Lundgren.
