Chief, Firefighters Burned at IN Silo Fire

The Storh fire chief suffered burns to his arms, face and hands and two Wolcottville firefighter suffered minor burns.

A Stroh firefighter suffered extensive burns at a sawmill fire in South Milford Tuesday.

The fire was reported in a 50-foot storage silo at Tri-State Hardwood around 5:30 a.m.

Fire officials told 21alive.com that a flashover left two Wolcottville firefighters with minor burns.

Crews continued to battle the fire until an explosion occurred.

"When it busted apart, there was a mass explosion, as soon as all that oxygen reached it, it just more or less exploded," Stroh Assistant Chief Finley Conley told the television station.

Chief Tyler Terry suffered first degree burns to his face and first and second degree burns to his arms and hands.

Terry was transported to St. Joseph Regional Burn Center where he is expected to be treated for a couple of days.

A mill worker was also burned, but was treated and released.

Fire crews remained on the second for 15 hours to contain the fire.
