OH Firefighter Dies After Suffering Cardiac Arrest on Duty

Adam Long, a firefighter with the Defense Supply Center Fire and Emergency Services died while on duty.
Long, 44, had more than 20 years of experience as a firefighter and collapsed while at the station in Columbus on Oct. 31, at 3:45 p.m.
According to U.S. Fire Administration, fellow responders treated Long and transported him to the hospital, but despite all efforts, Long died.
Long leaves behind his wife, Lore, son Luke, step-daughter Micah and her husband Derrick.
On a Facebook tribute page, a colleague with the DSCC, Firefighter/Paramedic Pete Anthony said Long was “the picture of health and fitness as he was always working out when he could.”
Anthony also wrote that Long was a fan of heavy metal music, especially Metallica and loved fishing for catfish.
After his death a procession was led by the Columbus Police Department and included units from Whitehall Fire, Truro Fire, Violet Fire, Columbus Fire and the DSCC where Long had worked for the past 12 years.
“Please say a prayer for him on his journey,” read a posting on the Facebook page. “And fly your United States of America flag high in the air with pride in his honor.”
During his military career, Long served a one-year remote tour in Korea and six tours in the Middle East.
To date, 73 firefighter fatalities have been reported to USFA in 2016.
