A Florida State College at Jacksonville student died while participating in a firefighter physical fitness exam Saturday.
A college official told News4JAX.com that recruits take the test to show they are physically qualified for the job.
"The FSCJ community is deeply saddened to report that a student has died following a firefighter application exercise," Director of Marketing and Communications Jill Johnson said in a statement. "Our deepest sympathies go out to the family as we grieve the loss of a young man with a desire to serve others through public service. As we await medical results, we stand ready to assist the family."
The school has offered their 24/7 student assistance program to the students.
