Family Files Lawsuit over Philadelphia LODD

Lt. Joyce Craig's estate has filed suit against manufacturers saying her equipment was inadequate.

The family of Philadelphia Lt. Joyce Craig filed a lawsuit against a number of manufacturers citing that the equipment she used in the 2014 fire where she died was inadequate.

Saltz Mongeluzzi, Barrett & Bendensky, who represents Craig's sons, ages 18 and 3, filed the wrongful death suit last week, according to NBCPhiladelphia.com.

Craig was trapped when she fell through the floor at a Dec. 9, 2014 house fire. Officials said Craig died from suffocation.

The suit claims that Craig's turnout gear, self-contained breathing apparatus and accountability equipment failed to protect her from the intense heat.

"This was a totally foreseeable and preventable tragedy," attorney David L. Kwass said. "We now know and will demonstrate at trial that Firefighter Craig never stood a chance at surviving that fire because her equipment – from her personal protective suit to her air tank system – was inadequate."
