IL Firefighter Dies After Responding to Call

John Michael “Mike” Cummins, 46, died after responding to a crash with the Homer Fire Protection District.

Members of the Home Fire Protection District are mourning the loss of a longtime member of the department.

John Michael “Mike” Cummins, 46, suffered a fatal medical injury after responding to a motor vehicle accident on Feb 8. according to the U.S. Fire Administration.

Cummins told firefighters at the station that he was not feeling well before he left he station at 11:45 p.m. on Feb. 7.

Cummins suffered a fatal medical injury and crashed into three parked cars while driving his personal vehicle.

Another firefighter was in the vehicle at the time and suffered minor injuries.

Cummins died the next day.
