A 50-year-old Detroit firefighter died of a heart attack after fighting back-to-back commercial building fires on Saturday.

Kevin Ramsey, a 20-year veteran of the Detroit Fire Department, complained about not feeling well after he returned from fighting the second fire. His fellow fighters began treating him and summoned advanced medical responders to the station, according to a release by the U.S. Fire Administration.

After four hours of fighting fires that day, he was taken to Detroit Receiving Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

Michael Nevin, a representative of the Detroit Fire Fighters Association, said Ramsey was a "wonderful, wonderful guy and a hell of a fireman."

He also said Ramsey grew up in Detroit, knew the city well and died doing what he did best. He was a member of the Engine 23 family on the East Side of the city.

He leaves behind his wife, Amy, and two children.
