CA Inmate Firefighter Badly Hurt in Fall Avoiding Bees

The Cal Fire crew member suffered facial and head injuries after he fell 50 feet while fighting a wildland fire.

An inmate firefighter with Cal Fire suffered facial and head injuries after he fell 50 feet down a hillside while fighting a five-alarm wildland fire after disturbing a bee hive.

According to television station CBS SFBay Area, the crew member lost his footing on at a fire near the Berkeley-Oakland border and fell down the hillside while scrambling to avoid the bees. He landed on the road below and suffered facial and head injuries from the impact. He was rushed to the hospital and is expected to survive, according to the television station.

The vegetation fire was reported just after 1 p.m. near Grizzly Peak Boulevard and Fish Ranch Road in Oakland not far from Lawrence Hall of Science.
