A junior firefighter in a small southeastern New Jersey community was killed this past weekend when he lost control of his pickup truck and crashed.
NJ.com reports that 17-year-old Elmer Fire Department member Timothy Crim died Sunday afternoon when he crashed as he was trying to pass another vehicle.
Crim, who was from Upper Pittsgrove, was pronounced dead at Memorial Hospital of Salem County following a wreck that happened at about 12:40 p.m. Police said the accident happened on Jill Road in Pilesgrove about a mile from Route 40.
"Today the Elmer Fire Department is mourning the loss of 17 year old Junior Firefighter Timothy Crim," the department wrote on its Facebook page. "Tim joined the department at the age of 16 as a junior firefighter and was working his way up to becoming a Probationary Firefighter."
The Woodstown High School junior had firefighting in his blood. Crim's late father Thomas, his late grandfather Herman and his uncle Robert all served as fire chief in Elmer. His brother Evan and two of his cousins are also with the organization.
