UT Battalion Chief Pinned Helping Car in Crash

Dec. 28, 2018
The Draper City firefighter suffered "severe" injuries after being hit and pinned by a car while assisting another vehicle Thursday night.

A Draper City firefighter is "doing great" and could be "released from the hospital shortly" after he was struck by a car Thursday, according to the Utah Highway Patrol.

The battalion chief, whose name wasn't released, had been helping a car that had previously crashed Thursday night, the highway patrol said. Another car then lost control, drove onto the shoulder and pinned him against the car he had been helping.

The firefighter was airlifted to a hospital, where he was listed in critical condition. The highway patrol described the battalion chief's injuries as "severe," but an online post late Thursday said he was "doing great."

"Thank you to all of Utah's first responders for their efforts above and beyond the call of duty on this challenging day!" the highway patrol said in a statement.
