Three South Carolina firefighters from two separate departments were hurt battling a five-alarm home fire Monday morning.
Two firefighters from the Whitesville Fire Department — Corey Hanson and Darryl Greenhill — were injured when the front of the Moncks Corner house collapsed, trapping them, WCSC-TV reports. A Moncks Corner firefighter also was taken to the hospital for burns.
“The (Whitesville) firefighters were safely extricated and transported to Trident Medical Center,” Berkeley County officials told WCSC. "One firefighter will be having surgery for a broken ankle, the other will soon be released from the hospital."
No one was home when the fire broke out at around 10:30 a.m. It took 14 fire departments around an hour to extinguish the blaze, the TV station reports.
