MI Firefighter Hurt Fighting Suspicious House Fire

BATTLE CREEK, Mich. -- A firefighter had a minor back injury while fighting a suspicious fire early Saturday, July 6 in Battle Creek.

The fire happened about 5:15 a.m. at 44 Janoah Ave. and firefighters arrived at the scene to find flames on both the first and second floors.

The heaviest fire was concentrated in a front porch area. The home was undergoing renovations and no one was living there at the time, authorities said.

Construction workers told investigators they were working in the house when fire appeared on the front porch. They evacuated the residence.

A firefighter had a back injury while fighting the fire, but the injury is not expected to cause any work down time.

A fire marshal is investigating the cause of the fire. Authorities say it is suspicious.
