Jul. 20--NORWALK -- A city firefighter was sent to the emergency room for possible exposure to pesticides from a fire at a South Norwalk commercial building Friday morning.
The Norwalk Fire Department responded to a fire at the Tuff Lawn landscaping company building at 320 Martin Luther King Jr. Drive around 9:30 a.m.
At the scene, firefighters found a pickup truck fully on fire inside the company garage.
"The sprinkler system of the building activated and controlled the fire while fire department personnel entered and extinguished the fire.
Overhaul operations were conducted and damage appears to be confined to the vehicle and the pallets of fertilizer/pesticide next to it," Deputy Fire Chief Todd Smith said in a press release.
One firefighter was sent to the hospital for exposure to pesticides in smoke. He was treated and later released, Smith said.
The Norwalk Fire Marshal Division is investigating the cause of the fire.
