The 46-year-old Bridgeport firefighter had multiple serious injuries after he was struck while crossing an intersection in June.

BRIDGEPORT, CT—Two city residents face charges linked to last June’s hit-and-run crash that seriously injured a Bridgeport firefighter who was walking across an intersection.

The Bridgeport Police Traffic Division arrested two people Thursday night for their role in the June 28, 2019, crash at the intersection of Stratford Avenue and East Main Street.

Adrian Cauthen, 33, of Dekalb Avenue, was charged with evading responsibility in a crash that resulted in serious physical injury, tampering with physical evidence, interfering with a police officer, third-degree assault and failure to yield to a pedestrian.

Frances Marino, 33, also of Dekalb Avenue, was charged with evading responsibility in a crash that resulted in serious physical injury, tempering with physical evidence and interfering with a police officer.

Cauthen’s bond was set at $20,000. Marino’s bond was set at $10,000.

Their charges stemmed from an investigation led by Officer Cynthia Dolyak and Officer John Perry, according to Capt. Kevin Gilleran.

Gilleran said the officers “are commended for doing an outstanding job and bringing this case to conclusion. Additional thanks to the patrol division for assisting with the warrant.”

The incident happened around 11:18 p.m. that June night.

Gilleran said an off-duty Bridgeport firefighter was crossing Stratford Avenue, within the crosswalk, when he was hit by a vehicle.

“The striking vehicle turned northbound onto East Main Street, stopped briefly, and then fled the scene,” Gilleran said.

The firefighter — a 46-year-old Stratford resident — was transported to Bridgeport Hospital with multiple serious injuries.
