The Parishville volunteer firefighter broke several bones and required surgery after he was involved in a single-vehicle accident while responding to an emergency.

A New York firefighter-EMT was critically injured in a single-vehicle crash while responding to a call Tuesday.

Veteran Parishville firefighter Nick Jerome was in his own vehicle when the accident happened shortly before 4:30 p.m., WWNY-TV reports. He was taken to the hospital in Potsdam and then airlifted to a facility in Syracuse.

St. Lawrence County officials told WWNY that Jerome was in stable condition following surgery Wednesday. Parishville Fire Chief Ed Cool told the Watertown Daily Times that the firefighter had broken several bones but that his injuries weren't life-threatening.

A GoFundMe campaign has been set up for Jerome.
