A veteran Maryland EMT died last week from complications of COVID-19.
LifeStar Response EMT Jerry Mercadante, 67, was battling the virus for three weeks and died Nov. 25, Michael Parker, managing director of the EMS service, said in a statement. He had been an EMT with LifeStar for 18 years.
“Jerry was a caring, highly competent EMT who was a Field Training Officer and senior member in their Delaware station,” Parker statement. “He will be deeply missed.”
Along with working at LifeStar, Mercardante was a life member with the Gumboro Volunteer Fire Company. He also had received numerous honors during his career.
"Jerry will be remembered as mentor and good friend to all,” Parker stated. “He touched countless lives as a dedicated EMT, and his legacy will live on through the many EMTs whose careers he helped shape.”
Memorial services will be private.
