Ellendale Fire Company firefighter Kristopher Heffentrager Sr., 45, had battled the virus for three weeks, according to his obituary. He died at Thomas Jefferson Hospital on Nov. 27.
"Kris had served as a fire policeman this year, a position he was incredibly proud to hold," Heffentrager's fire company stated in an online update.
Along with being a firefighter, Heffentrager also drove for a bus company.
A memorial with full honors at the Ellendale Fire Company is set for 3 p.m. Sunday.
