WV Fire Chief Dies after COVID, Pneumonia Battle

Mannington Fire Chief Jim Moran, 52, died Wednesday and had been on a ventilator for nine days after being diagnosed with COVID-19 and pneumonia.

A West Virginia fire chief died Wednesday just over a week after he was placed on a ventilator because of COVID-19 and pneumonia.

Mannington Fire Chief Jim Moran, 52, was admitted to the intensive care unit at J.W. Ruby Memorial Hospital on Jan. 4, the department said in an online update. He was put on a ventilator after being diagnosed with pneumonia.

Moran died Wednesday, the department stated on social media.

“It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our Fire Chief Jimmy Moran,” the department said. “We would like to thank everyone for the prayers in this difficult time. We ask that everyone please keep the Mannington Fire Department and the family of Chief in your prayers over the next couple of days.”
