The accident happened while the Clintonville firefighter was at the scene of a multiple vehicle crash along Interstate 80 in Venango County.

A Pennsylvania firefighter was injured after being struck by a tractor-trailer while directing traffic at the scene of a multiple vehicle accident Thursday.

The initial incident happened shortly before 6 a.m. along Interstate 80 in Venango County, Explore Venango reports. Several other crashes happened shortly after, shutting down all lanes of the interstate until just before 11:30 a.m.

A tractor-trailer struck a Clintonville firefighter who was directing traffic on the interstate. The tractor-trailer had lost control in the bad weather, the Emlenton Fire Department stated in an online post.

A helicopter was called to airlift the firefighter, but the poor conditions prevented the flight. Instead, the firefighter was taken to the hospital by ambulance, and no details were given concerning the nature and extent of the injuries.

"Please let this be a reminder to SLOW DOWN when you see emergency vehicles or are driving in (inclement) weather," the Emlenton Fire Department stated.
