TX Firefighter/Paramedic Dies after Lengthy COVID Battle

April 23, 2021
Seguin Fire Department firefighter/paramedic Roger Dean, who had recently become a father, died Friday after a lengthy battle against COVID-19.

A Texas city is mourning the loss of a firefighter who became a father in just the last year following his death from COVID-19.

The Seguin Fire Department announced in a social media post that firefighter/paramedic Roger Dean passed away on Friday after a "lengthy, hard-fought battle" against the virus. He was 31 years old.

"It is with profound sadness that we announce the death of one of our own," Seguin Fire Chief Dale Skinner said in the post announcing Dean's death. “Please keep his wife, baby girl, their family and our department in your thoughts and prayers, during this difficult time."

Dean began his career with the Seguin Fire Department in July 2018 and was promoted to Field Training Officer in July 2019. He leaves behind his wife, Stephanie, and their 8-month-old daughter, Amelia.

“Roger’s passing is devastating to our city organization and the Seguin Fire Department family,” City Manager Steve Parker said. “He was a wonderful employee and coworker who will be very missed. Roger will be remembered for his kind, caring nature, and his dedication to serving this community.”

It is unclear whether Dean contracted the virus while he was on duty.
