WY Firefighter, Wife Die Minutes Apart from COVID

Casper Mountain Fire District firefighter Walter Kussy and his wife were rushed to the hospital with the virus July 27, and both passed away within 10 minutes of each other Friday.

A Wyoming volunteer firefighter and his wife died of COVID-19 on Friday, just 10 minutes apart.

Walter Kussy, a member of the Casper Mountain Fire District, and his wife, Susie, were taken to the hospital by ambulance July 27 after contracting the virus, according to a GoFundMe page set up to help the couple's three children. Walter Kussy had been in the ICU since he arrived at the hospital, and he needed to be intubated and placed on a ventilator Monday.

"It is with a very heavy heart that I have to let you all know, that this morning CMFD lost a brother, friend & firefighter," the fire district stated in a social media post Friday.

Along with serving as a volunteer firefighter, Walter also was a local contractor. Susie worked as a nurse.
