A Pennsylvania firefighter was released from the hospital Thursday where he had been since being struck by an alleged drunken driver at the scene of a previous accident late last month.

Belmont Hills firefighter Alex Fischer was part of a response to a crash in Lower Merion Township on July 24 when he was hit. Firefighter Tom Royds was killed in the incident, and another firefighter and a state trooper were injured.

“The injuries that I have are minimal to what I could of been having if I was a couple feet over,” Fischer told KYW-TV. " It’s a miracle to be here."

Fischer received an apparatus escort from the hospital to his home. Once there, he was greeted by throng of family, friends and fellow firefighters.

"Today was a huge win," said Lower Merion Chief Chas McGarvey.
