Off-Duty AL FF Killed in Shooting

An off-duty Birmingham Fire and Rescue firefighter was shot and killed Sunday afternoon in Pelham.

An off-duty Birmingham firefighter killed in a Sunday shooting in Pelham has now been identified.

The Shelby County Coroner’s Office on Monday identified the victim as Christopher Lee Easter. He was 46 and lived in Pelham.

Authorities responded about 1:30 p.m. Sunday to west Stonehaven Circle. Easter had been shot and was pronounced dead.

Few details are being released but police officials said a person of interest is in custody. Detectives were conducting interviews and evidence technicians are processing the scene.

Birmingham Fire and Rescue Service officials said Easter was an 18-year veteran of the department and released this stateent. “On behalf of our fire chief, our deepest sympathies go out to his family, friends and fellow co-workers.’'

Police said more information could be released later today.
