A Trenton firefighter was grazed by a stray bullet while working out inside a city firehouse Tuesday night, a union leader said.
The firefighter was in the gym at the Calhoun Street firehouse when he was wounded, Wayne Wolk, president of the Trenton fire officers union, told NJ Advance Media. He suffered a graze wound to his arm and was taken to a local hospital for treatment, the union president said.
The initial report of shots fired came around 8:40 p.m. from Trenton’s gunfire detection system, ShotSpotter, which led police to North Willow Street, according to Detective Lt. Bethesda Stokes, a police spokeswoman.
Officers found 11 shell casings at the scene and received a call about the firefighter, Stokes said. The first report of gunfire was a short distance from the firehouse.
The firefighter was listed in stable condition, the lieutenant said. An investigation was ongoing.
