Apr. 28—Two Orland Park police officers and an Orland Fire Protection District firefighter were injured Tuesday night responding to a fire in Orland Park, according to the fire district.
The police officers were treated for smoke inhalation and the firefighter suffered minor burns, and all three were taken to a hospital and later released, fire Chief Michael Schofield said in a news release.
Firefighters and police responded to a call about 7:30 p.m. Tuesday in the 8200 block of Legend Lane, and firefighters found heavy smoke and fire coming from the front of the garage, according to the release.
The fire started in the home's utility room and the cause is under investigation, with the fire protection district being assisted by the Illinois State Fire Marshal, officials said.
The home is uninhabitable, but homeowners were able to stay with family members, officials said.
One of the homeowners told first responders he couldn't locate his wife and believed that she was still in the house, which prompted a search of the home, officials said. The woman was found in the backyard, uninjured.
