AL Station Closed Due to Asbestos, Mold Issues

Douglas A. Melton Station in Mobile temporarily closed after tile in the station tested positive for asbestos.

An Alabama fire station has temporarily closed due to asbestos, mold and more, according to a press release.

Douglas A. Melton Station, located at 57 S. Lafayette St. in Mobile, closed after tile in the station tested positive for asbestos.

Once the discovery was made, firefighters and equipment were immediately moved from the station and into area Mobile Fire-Rescue Department stations.

According to the release, firefighters have been relocated strategically to keep response times at their peak and the area covered during the closure.

Along with the asbestos, crews will also be removing mold in the station and making various other repairs.

The release also added that there shouldn’t be any impact to the areas the fire station covers.
