Fundraiser for Injured MA Firefighter Reaches $69K

Dec. 24, 2023
Falmouth Lt. Timothy Bailey faces a long recovery from injuries sustained when he fell through a floor at a building fire.

Unfortunate circumstances befell Falmouth Fire Lieutenant Timothy Bailey on Sunday, Dec. 17, when he was injured fighting a three-alarm fire in town.

Reporters at the scene of the blaze said that firefighters had to rush to the basement of the building to save a firefighter who fell through the first floor. A post to X, formerly known as Twitter, by NBC10 Boston reporter Eli Rosenberg said that the firefighter had “significant non-life-threatening traumatic injuries.”

Since that day, a fundraiser has been set up for Bailey, whom the fundraiser said has “a long road to recovery, including multiple surgeries and a lengthy hospital stay in Boston.”

With an original goal of $5,000, the fundraiser has blown past that, with more than $68,000 collected as of 3:45 p.m. on Saturday.

“Tim is a 19-year veteran of the Falmouth Fire Dept., and he and his wife Debra were looking forward to spending Christmas with their 14-year-old son Jack,” the fundraiser page said.

The Greg Hill Foundation agreed to match the first $5,000 donated.

Bailey had to be airlifted to Massachusetts General Hospital following the fire, and suffered multiple traumatic injuries, according to the fundraiser.

The Cape Cod Times reported that there were three firefighters hospitalized during the blaze, but that only one was taken to Mass. General.

“(Firefighters) just did one heck of a job, not only getting him out of the building and one of their comrades being injured but then having to turn and to work on extinguishing the fire, which was very significant,” Jake Wark, a spokesperson for the state Department of Fire Services, told the Times.
