The Shrewsbury fire chief released a video from a close call involving one of his firefighters earlier this month at an arson fire following a shooting.

"While this video is disturbing to watch and this was a very tragic event where two people lost their lives, I feel it is important to share the challenges and ever present dangers our firefighters face while performing their duties," Shrewsbury Fire Chief Tony Myers wrote on Facebook.

Shrewsbury firefighters were called to assist Stewartstown Borough firefighters with a fire in a two-story building on Aug. 3, around 6 a.m.

When Shrewsbury crews arrived, they helped remove two victims and stretched a backup hoseline to the second floor of the 115-year-old home.

"While attempting to extinguish the fire on the second floor, one of our Shrewsbury Volunteers fell through the second floor onto the first floor," Myers wrote. The "distance from the first floor to the ceiling of the first floor was 12 feet and 4 inches. Immediately following the fall, firefighters on the first floor recognized the severity of what had occurred and quickly rendered assistance to get the firefighter out of the building. Our firefighter was removed from the building in approximately 31 seconds."

The firefighter was transported to York Hospital for treatment and was released from the hospital later that day.

Myers lauded the firefighter's proper use of PPE for protecting them during the fall.

"We want to thank our mutual aid Brothers for their quick action in recognizing AND reacting to the situation. They certainly prevented a bad situation from becoming worse."

The victims that firefighters removed from the fire, Michael Shores Jr. and Jennifer Troch, were later determined to have been shot in the head by investigators and said the fire was deemed arson, according to Local21News.com.
