The Florida Highway Patrol said an SUV driver drove on to the shoulder to avoid traffic when they struck the firefighter.
A firefighter was struck directing traffic at a vehicle crash on Interstate 75 in Lee County Saturday.
The firefighter, who was directing traffic on Southbound Interstate 75, was struck by an SUV about 12:30 a.m.
The Florida Highway Patrol told Fox 4 News that the 51-year-old firefighter was helping direct traffic at the crash scene when he was struck. Police said he was wearing a reflective vest.
The SUV driver drove on to the inside shoulder to avoid traffic that had slowed down due to the previous crash when it struck the firefighter, police told WINK News.
