Hospers, IA, Firefighter Burned in Flashover, Recovering

Firefighter Phil Zeutenhorst was hurt during a controlled house fire exercise last month near Hospers.

A Hospers firefighter, who suffered serious burns in a flashover at controlled house fire exercise last month, remains hospitalized.

Phil Zeutenhorst, 41, has had two surgeries since suffering burns on his hands, arms, chest, ears, legs and back, according to nwestiowa.com. 

Another firefighter received minor burns in the Nov. 24 incident.

As helicopters were grounded due to weather that night, Zeutenhorst was transported by ambulance to CHI Health St. Elizabeth Burn Center in Lincoln.

Zeutenhorst may be transferred to another facility as his therapies continue.

His department and community have been rallying to support him and his family.
