Four Cal Fire Firefighters Burned During Prescribed Burn
Four firefighters with Cal Fire’s Mendocino Unit were injured Friday, May 1, while conducting a vegetation management prescribed burn near Covelo, officials said.
The firefighters suffered burn injuries during the incident, which occurred earlier in the day, according to a statement from the unit.
All four were taken to hospitals for evaluation and treatment. Two of the injured firefighters were flown by helicopter to UC Davis’ Burn Center in Sacramento because of the remote location, while the others were transported to Adventist Health Howard Memorial hospital in Willits.
All four firefighters were released from the hospital by Friday evening, officials said.
No additional details about the circumstances of the incident were immediately available.
