FEMA to Open Second Round of COVID-19 Response Grants

Aug. 17, 2020
Although the new application period for the Assistance to Firefighters Grant—COVID-19 Supplemental Program hasn't been determined, it's expected to open in October.

The application process for second round of federal firefighter assistance grants is expected to open later this year, according to the U.S. Fire Administration.

FEMA is offering another opportunity for fire departments to apply for money to pay for personal protective equipment and other supplies through the Assistance to Firefighters Grant—COVID-19 Supplemental Program. Although the application period hasn't been determined, it's expected to open in October, the USFA said in a release.

"I know departments are extremely preoccupied with many other responsibilities; however, it is my hope that departments will apply for and take advantage of these funding resource opportunities,” U.S. Fire Administrator G. Keith Bryant said in a statement.

The FEMA program offers grants to departments to volunteer and combination fire departments to buy essential supplies during the pandemic. Departments that received grants during the first round are eligible to apply again, but new applications must support new capabilities, according to the USFA.
