Armament Systems and Procedures (ASP) has launched Defender Decon, thereby broadening its Defender product range. The proprietary cleanser is formulated to speed up recovery from exposure to OC (oleoresin capsicum—commonly known as “pepper spray”).
When OC is used—whether by law enforcement or in a civilian self-defense context—it often impacts all those nearby. Defender Decon is designed to decompose the oily resin that pepper spray leaves on the skin, facilitating the removal of irritants and minimizing recovery time in comparison to conventional approaches such as water or regular household cleaners. Defender Decon, when used correctly, has demonstrated the ability to offer significant relief in ten to fifteen minutes, in contrast to the usual recovery times of thirty to sixty minutes or longer without it.
The Defender Decon, which is eco-friendly, comes in a compact 4-ounce canister (MK-4 size), making it perfect for use in patrol cars, duty bags and medical kits. Additionally, there is a 32-oz. sprayer intended for high-volume applications, like those in training academies, crowd control situations, or correctional facilities. ASP also provides a Decon kit that features two 4-ounce cans, soft paper towels, nitrile gloves and a laminated procedure card, all packed in a compact storage bag.
ASP provides the Spectrum multi-mode tactical flashlight, which has an ultraviolet setting, to improve the decontamination process. This setting uncovers remnants of pepper spray, which contains UV identifying dye, including sprays manufactured by ASP and other brands. The dye will remain on skin and clothing for a day or two, but UV light will assist in pinpointing areas that require decontamination.
