Phalanx equips agencies with specialty systems that aren’t police hand-me-downs.

Gainesville, FL -- The number of Fire/EMS Agencies being sent into warm zones has increased in the last few years, but the number of companies making body armor specifically for these first responders has not. Phalanx Defense Systems has been focused on Fire/EMS armor systems for the last 7 years, and continues to lead the charge to gearing up departments for the safety of first responders.

James Coats, CEO of Phalanx Defense Systems, said, “We understand that the needs of our Fire, EMS and Paramedic first responders are very different from those of law enforcement. With many agencies just considering or purchasing armor for the first time, they are seeking advice from their police counterparts.

The LE experience with armor is long-standing and invaluable, but it doesn’t take into account the special needs of the Fire/EMS use case. We want to protect our first responders and give them the solutions to prevent them from stepping on the scene in hand-me-down or repurposed body armor that may hamper them on the job, rather than help them.”

On the market now are Phalanx’s Tactical Responder carriers. The Tactical Responder MKII was specifically developed for tactical paramedics in active shooter and mass casualty incidents with plenty of MOLLE real estate to carry lifesaving equipment. The Tactical Responder MKV is designed to mimic the look of bunker gear and does not use MOLLE so that departments can appear less geared up on routine calls, while still being fully protected.

Both systems were designed to allow for full articulation as first responders bend over patients and offer the largest armor coverage areas on the market for the front, back and sides of the body. Both systems are shift-deployable, step-in solutions designed to allow agencies to protect their men and women on any budget.

Highlights of the system include a drag handle for emergency extraction, upgradable armor pockets for adding hard armor, adjustment for up to a 62” waist, front and back ID area, choice of color and a shield configuration.

Phalanx has also released a Universal Tourniquet Delivery System that can attach to their carriers, and most other models on the market as well, to help agencies meet the new standards of emergency care. Coats said this was a natural addition to Phalanx’s product line as the team is focused on designing gear that is functional and comfortable.

Phalanx Defense Systems develops and manufactures innovative protective gear for first responders. From carriers to accessories to hard armor plates, each piece is made and tested in the United States.
